Following the success of the Koori Knockout 2024 campaign, Charles Sturt University re-engaged Ashwater Films to develop a new suite of content — building on existing material to create additional high-value assets.

The brief focused on transforming previously captured student stories into a refined set of promotional films, designed to support broader university messaging across multiple audiences and platforms.

The Challenge-

CSU had already invested in a large-scale content production — but the opportunity was to extend the value of that investment.

The challenge was to:

Rework existing narratives into new formats without repetition
Maintain authenticity while reshaping stories for different audiences
Create both First Nations-specific and broader university messaging
Deliver multiple assets with distinct purposes from the same material
Ensure each piece felt cohesive, purposeful and complete

This required a considered approach to story structure, tone and audience alignment — not simply re-editing content.

Our Approach-

Ashwater Films revisited the original material through a narrative and strategic lens — identifying new story pathways and opportunities within the footage.

We developed a suite of films that reinterpreted the existing stories, including:

A university-wide hero film
A First Nations-focused narrative film
A 30-second television commercial

The approach focused on:

Weaving together multiple perspectives into cohesive story arcs
Restructuring narratives to suit different communication objectives
Balancing emotional storytelling with clear institutional messaging
Creating variation in tone — from reflective and intimate through to more energetic broadcast formats

Each piece was designed to function independently, while still aligning with the broader narrative of CSU’s student experience.

The Outcome-

The result was a highly efficient and strategically valuable extension of the original campaign.

By reworking existing content, CSU was able to:

Maximise return on their initial investment
Expand their content library across multiple formats
Reach different audiences with tailored messaging
Maintain consistency while increasing output

The project demonstrates Ashwater Films’ ability to think beyond production — delivering ongoing value through strategic storytelling, narrative refinement and intelligent content reuse.
