Steve approached Ashwater Films with a project that had taken years to develop – a video that represented his company and captured the culture and ethos of his work. He needed to find someone who understood the human side of his company’s mission. Steve wasn’t sure exactly how to show a side of skydiving that people hadn’t seen before, which is where we could help.
The challenge was creating a story that captures the journey of skydiving, highlighting the theme of personal development as well as showcasing the location of the business and it’s staff. Steve wanted a cinematic feel rather than the standard high energy rough-looking skydiving videos that other companies use. We worked with Steve to create a visual journey focussed on anticipation instead of the freefall. Instead of a script for Steve, we interviewed him on camera, and as we had built a rapport the interview was intimate and had the feel that Steve wanted. We worked with a smaller crew which enabled us to shoot from a helicopter, adding some serious production value.
Steve was happy with the result, even though it may be unusual to make a skydiving promotional video without the freefall, but happily the finished product meant that Coffs Skydivers were able to reach new customers that were engaged by the storytelling and the vision.

There were helicopters flying next to planes at low heights and coordinating this safely was impressive to say the least. One chance to get the shot and a whole heap of moving parts and plenty to go wrong but it was perfect.”
